There is a group named Fetal alcohol syndrome which deals with birth defects which happens by consuming alcohol at the time of pregnancy. Children with these syndromes have many mental, behavioural and physical problems. They are retarded, small and may be underweight babies. As time passes by, they frequently face difficulties with problem solving, attention, learning and memory. They also may have hearing or speech problems and is unable to synchronize well. The only way to prevent Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is by stop drinking alcohol during pregnancy.

Children with this kind of syndrome may have many problems. Like irregular facial characteristics such as small eye openings, thin upper lip, flat cheeks and short nose. It may also result into brain damage.
Actually, when pregnant women drink alcohol, it gets mixed into their blood and reaches the baby through the umbilical cord. And thus abnormal birth may also occur.

Here are few doubts that may arise in your mind.

1. Can I consume alcohol if I am pregnant?
Strictly no. Because when you are pregnant everything you eat or drink is consumed by the baby too. So, when you are drinking, your baby is also drinking at the same time.

2. Is any type of alcohol secure to drink in the period of pregnancy?
Again no. Any kind of alcohol is harmful for your baby. Alcoholic drinks are liquor, beer, wine; mixed drinks, liquor, or wine coolers and all of them almost contain same quantity of alcohol.

3. Will these problems go away?
The answer is again no. These problems will persist for the child’s entire life.
So, the best way is to quit drinking, if you know that you are pregnant. So, say no to alcohol at least when you are pregnant and gift your baby a healthy life.
