Sex ratio of alcohol addicts of New Brunswick

Alcoholism has emerged as one of the prevalent problems and sex ratio has significant impact on the habit of alcoholism in New Brunswick. It has been a social taboo to presume that men are the only alcoholics. But these days, women have become equally prone to drinking habits which they develop at the social events and parties like men. There are many teenager girls who start drinking at high schools and later on get addicted to it. Women and men- both suffer from hazardous after effects of alcoholism at a later part of their lives. Women belonging to higher social status are equally affected by alcoholism in most cases. Loneliness and depression are two other reasons for increase in alcoholism among women in New Brunswick.

It has been noticeable that in the last century the sex ratio for drinking among whites and blacks has differed significantly. Most of the studies conducted before the 1970s revealed the fact that blacks were not much involved in alcoholism compared to the whites. Especially black women were more interested in heavy drinking when compared to men. In fact alcoholism was one of the major causes of early death among black women. Later one the female to male ratio among blacks for alcoholism was 1.85:1.44. The same ratio for whites was 6.20:5.67. Alcoholism in women can be extremely fatal as they are the ones who take major responsibilities of the family. Kids with alcoholic parents are prone to grow up into an alcoholic that is not desired at all.

Often awareness programs are organized in New Brunswick in order to put a stop on the alcoholism problems. Rehab facilities are made available to addicts belonging to both genders which help them get rid of the habit and get a better social life for themselves and also for their families.
